Jessica Sanderson is from James Smith Cree Nation, Saskatchewan and has been employed with Cando since 2009. Jessica holds a Accounting Diploma and will be graduating with a Bachelor Business Administration Degree with an Accounting Emphasis in December 2013. Her career path started in 2008, when she was accepted for a position at the Canadian Native Friendship Centre as Aboriginal Liaison, this position allowed her to work with Aboriginal youth and enhance their job placement in the work field. At this time, she felt that it was important to work towards empowering youth and continue to work within the Aboriginal community. This valuable experience has opened many doors for her and she had the opportunity to continue to work with youth at Cando, facilitating the Aboriginal Business Dream Catcher Program geared towards Aboriginal youth.
Over the past 4 years, Jessica has held positions with Cando such as National Conference Assistant, Fundraising and Finance Assistant and eventually into the Finance Officer role. Jessica’s responsibilities include administration of the full accounting cycle for both Cando and NIEEF’s financial affairs; also contributing with other Cando projects and financial reporting. Jessica’s future goals are to become a Certified General Accountant designation(CGA), attain her Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager designation and continue to work towards enhancing her skills by taking professional development training.
