Patrick Michell is a member of the Nlaka’pamux Nation and his home community is at Kanaka Bar. Patrick has lived in the Fraser Canyon all of his life although he has made a few visits down to the lower mainland in a Greyhound bus where he received an Administrative Management Diploma from Douglas College and a Bachelor of Laws degree from UBC. Patrick then spent a few weekdays with DFO, INAC & the Ministry of Attorney General. Patrick commuted back home for those 5 years of weekends in a 1967 red Volkswagen beetle. Called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1997, Patrick traded in his beetle for a blue cavalier and went on to work as a sole practicing lawyer mainly in the areas of Family and Criminal law until finally taking a break at the end of 2005. Patrick returned to full time work in April 2008 accepting a role with the Kwoiek Creek Hydro Project as Community Liaison until August 2014 when the role transitioned into the full time EDO. As a Kanaka Bar community member, Patrick has been involved with the day to day activities of the community from day one (1965), the hydro project since inception (1978) and since 2008 Patrick has been a primary contact in regards to the hydro project’s development and construction phases. Patrick presently drives a used minivan having along his journey accumulated 6 kids, 5 grandchildren and 1 wife.
